What is travel insurance?
Travel insurance is a contract (policy) between you (the insured) and the insurance provider (the insurer) covering you, your travel and your travel arrangements.
This contract (the policy) reimburses you if you (the insured and policyholder) suffer certain losses as specified in the (policy).
To get an insurance policy, you must pay a sum of money, called a (premium). In exchange (the insurer) agrees to pay you a sum of money, (indemnity), when an event for which you are insured occurs during the coverage period and/or the duration of the contract.
This contract (travel insurance policy) is accompanied with an assistance service designed to help you when you suffer one or more risks as specified in the contract (the policy).
Travel insurance coverage applies mainly to emergency medical expenses, trip cancellations and interruptions, personal property, as well as other coverage.
When purchasing a travel insurance policy, it is recommended that you read and fully understand the explanation of the following topics:

Why is travel insurance necessary?
Life is constantly changing.
And in life, unexpected emergencies happen at any time. Often, these emergencies occur while travelling, and these are usually very costly.
What you need to know before leaving your province or leaving Canada.
Health Insurance.
- Your provincial or territorial health care plan may not cover any costs or, at best, only reimburse a small portion of the cost of medical care received outside your province or abroad.
- In reality your Canadian health insurance is not valid outside of Canada.
- Hospitalization abroad can be very expensive and require immediate cash payments.
Emergency medical needs in other countries.
- In some countries, hospitals and clinics refuse to treat patients who do not have sufficient insurance or who do not have enough money to pay for their care. The government of your province or of Canada will not pay medical expenses incurred outside Canada.
- And most importantly, some countries around the world now require travel insurance when you arrive at their borders. Upon arrival, they check to see if you have travel insurance. If you do not have it, they force you to buy travel insurance available in their country, which at times, is often incomplete. And only then, are you permitted to enter their country.
Non-refundable amount(s) for trip cancellation or interruption
- If you must cancel your trip or change your travel arrangements during your trip, you are most likely subject to several costly penalties. In this case, you must pay these.
Your personal property
- While travelling, your personal belongings can be lost, damaged or even stolen.
